Friday 3rd April 2009 PRESS RELEASE
Cockenzie & Port Seton In Bloom is delighted to announce that they are to enter the Beautiful Scotland competition again in 2009.
We know it will be hard work but are prepared to do this with the help of our very supportive Community/East Lothian Council : work has recently started in earnest.
Spring bedding has been restricted this year because of works going on in the Nursery Garden i.e. a new skin has been put on the polytunnel and a smaller polytunnel, for our misting bench, has been erected alongside.
One of the Awards that we won last year was the Scottish Natural Heritage Award for Biodiversity – “Naturally Blooming” included vouchers for £500; this amount has been divided between Cockenzie Power Station for wild meadow seeds for their Wild Flower Meadow; Bird and Bat boxes for the John Bellany Day Centre; and Cockenzie School will benefit too. The Sandy Walk will benefit from wild flower seeds and shrubs giving the whole community a share of this fantastic Award. We are very proud to be the first recipients.
We would respectfully invite our Community to take part in the Spring Clean Week commencing 20 April 2009 (to help keep our village spotless!). Please contact Sheila Chambers on 812410 or Marlene Love on 811788 if you are able to help. These annual Spring Cleans help to give us points in the Beautiful Scotland competition and keep our village looking it’s very best. A warm Invitation to everyone to come and support us at our Plant Sale on Saturday 23rd May 2009 at 11 am – 3 pm in the Nursery Garden in the grounds of Cockenzie School : PLEASE COME AND BUY YOUR SUMMER BEDDING PLANTS FROM US. If you are unable to come then, the Nursery Garden is open Monday to Thursday 10.30 am – 2 pm from now on when you are very welcome to come and browse and/or buy our plants for sale and order your hanging basket, planter or flower pouch.
